Program notes
The name of this piece alludes to the sound of nocturnal singing frogs in Caracas, Venezuela. Further than that it is an abstract, and at times collage-like, stream of sound and visual imagery on the themes of night, multiplicity, anonymity and song. The marimba material revolves around tonal areas that seek to match the visuals: the player builds textures but ultimately aims to produce playful rhythmic patterns. In the original double-stereo version, the performer is equipped with sensors that allow her to pan the electronic and amplified sounds around the concert hall through arm movements.
